Things

Well... I'll start with some pictures of me from work Christmas party. We had a lottery, and here I am showing my prize - probably with a slightly perplexed/amused face, as you can see from the second picture! Because, actually what I won was some apples, some salted almonds and pistachios! Very unusual stuff, but at least little niece enjoyed her first pistachios a lot! Lots of things have happened since last time I wrote here. Yet it seems as everything is the same. I went to Paris, where I had the chance to know with our CEO. It was tiring but a very interesting experience. I worked a lot - and I am proud of the results we got. I moved to a town closer to work, by the sea (hence the lack of internet - but I'll deal with that soon). I am well and relaxed, and actually I love living there. I had my contract at work renewed. Still studying music - only changed location, but my awesome teacher is still the same. Had my first concert in a theatre, with the band. It w

Sorry I have been away for so long. I moved for a couple of weeks at my sister's house near the beach, since nobody was there, and enjoyed being closer to a friend and to work. Now I am back home, and tomorrow I'll fly to Paris! The picture is a nice coincidence: I have had this print for the longest time - probably 15 years, and now it hangs on the wall above my bed. And the hotel I am going to stay is called - Hotel Le Chat Noir. With that cat (chat) hanging on the room's windows. I'll surely take pictures. Don't know how much time I'll have to visit the city, since it's a work trip, but I'll make sure I'll bring back some sweets. Ciao!

Slowing down...

As the summer is coming to an end - it's still pretty warm in here - I find myself not willing to let it go. It was a strange summer, my first as a single after several years, the first I went on vacation with friends, the first I spent lots of time with myself, with my friends and my family, but no boyfriend. I still don't want this summero to go away, so, as long as the weather allows it, I'll keep wearing my summer skirts (hence the lack of outfit posts, since I am just repeating worn outfits), go to the beach (it's so beautiful in September), and last week I spent several days at my sister's beach house (which is closer to my work than my own place! I am considering moving there...) We, as a band played last Fri. I was surprised I wasn't a bit nervous - just cold. I think we were good. The singer was awesome, I told her at the end. I am going to Paris at the beginning of October, for work. I don't think I'll have a lot of time to see the city

Four outfits!

Image
I had a wonderful, relaxing time in Ischia. The rest of my vacation days were spent going to the beach, visiting friends and just resting. So, I only have  four outfits to show you, from my first week of work (some pics are blury, for some unknown reason...) Shirt - Pimkie Skirt - Promod Shoes - BC for Urban Outfitters Necklace - friend's gift I was pretty bored by my usual combinations of shirt+skirt, so I tried a new one. I like these colors together, but the shirt is a tad too long/large to work with this skirt, I think. Tank top - Promod Skirt -random street stand Shoes - Le scarpe di Lou Necklace - present from Nepal Found this tank top for 7€ and thought the color would be very versatile. In fact, I have worn it a lot. Please notice my new electrical guitar, Stella, near the chair. I'll take a picture of her pretty soon... Shirt - Conbipel Skirt . Promod Shoes - Primadonna Belt - random street stand Necklace - random beach vendor I have this shirt in my clo

Leaving!

Forgot to say... I am leaving for the island of Ischia tomorrow morning. I am going with two girlfriends, and our plans involve lots of sun and relax. Hope I'll take some nice pics! Ciao!

Some from last week... Shirt - Pimkie Skirt - JCrew Shoes - Primadonna Belt - Street stant Necklace - Target? This is a JCrew skirt I bought in 2001 and had tailored... I should wear it more often, since I got lots of compliments over this outfit, which, in my opinion, was pretty simple. These shoes are the most comfortable wedges ever! Shirt - Pimkie Skirt - Street stand Shoes - Le scarpe di Lou Necklace - Target This got me lots of complimets too (including my she-boss), and I still don't get why. The skirt is a bit unusual, but it's fun, and I like the shoes are the same color as the waistband. I was going to wear a purple necklace, but then things would have been too matchy-matchy! Shirt - Pimkie Pants - Benetton Belt - Promod, came with a skirt Shoes - BC for Urban Outfitters Necklace - Present from Nepal I have always associated the color turquoise with summer. I loved it paired with these white pants. These are a bit of a risk for me, since last time I wore

Confused...

He started by leaving short messages for her at work, where she could find them in the morning. At first, she didn't know what/how to respond, then she started replying. Everytime he was a work, he'd live another message for her. Every morning, the first thing she would do was check if there was another message. She'd keep it in her pocket for the whole work day, and she'd touch it lightly when she needed reassurance, when the day was getting tough. It was like having a friend standing by her, even if he wasn't physically there. They started to talk on the phone. They liked each other, a lot. He thinks she is gorgeous. She says he is handsome. He is tall and older than her, and she feels really safe close to him, like nothing bad could happen. They became more than friends. They loved talking on the phone at night, laughing really hard. Eating together. Waiting on the balcony for down to break the sky - the moon on one side, the raising sun on the ot

On the power of travelling

Image
This post made me think. It came as a nice coincidence. Yesterday I was talking to my friend (who was one of the girls in Amsterdam with me) and she said - It was such an useful  thing for me to just break away from here for a while. It did me well. And I started thinking about the healing power of changing your landscape for a while. I have always believed, since I tried it on myself, that when something goes wrong, running away is not the solution. You can start again somewhere else, but you'll find yourself tied in the same situation you run away from, unless you change. But a brief escape has some magical powers. At some point, when I was living in Buffalo, I had a mini meltown. I was running a bunch of experiments, but the instrument I was using would cooperate once every 5 times. I didn't have much time. I was tired. I was starting to hate everything and everybody. I took 3 days off and drove to Toronto. Had lunch on the shore, that day, then went to lay on the

It was a really nice and relaxing weekend. I didn't know most of the girls that came with us, but they were all very pleasant and I had a great time. Here are some pics. Bikes were everywhere! Houses on water were so romantic and beautiful: The sights were very romatic and a little melancholic (should have come with a lover!): Loved the windmills, their smell, and their inside mechanism (I am a nerd): And here is happy me with a cinnamon bun for breakfast!

Outfits!

Sorry I have neclected this blog for so long... It is really hot, and the only thing I really want to do when I get home is lay in bed with all my windows open... Here are some outfits - I took a picture only of the ones which weren't repetitions of previous outfits. Shirt - Pimkie Skirt - Koan for Upim Shoes - Primadonna Necklace - Steph's mom I decided to try Kelly's suggestion, and wear this skirt with gray. This is the only gray shirt I own, though! And it's a bit too long for the skirt. But I like the result nonetheless. Even though I think the colors of the skirt pop out better when paired with a black top. Top - Oltre Jeans - Killah Shoes - Primadonna I love these shoes - it's like wearing slippers, plus the color goes with everything. I wore pants because we had an inspection at work and I thought it'd better if I showed with my legs covered (my "top part" is always covered by my lab coat, and I change shoes with my white ones when I g

Birthday thoughts.

Image
I am starting this post with a picture of me, cutting a cake, on Sat night, at the end of dinner. I had my sisters, parents and little niece for dinner, and it was a very pleasant evening. The day before I went to my ex' place, and took every last bit I had left there (winter coats, and other random stuff, such as a muffin pan, and the tablecloth you can see in the picture). This was one of the presents I gave myself for my birthday. The lightness of knowing that everything is done, finished and closed, and I don't need to have anything to do with him anymore. Then, for my "new year", I decided to be a tiny bit braver, and ask people to do stuff with me. I have always been pretty shy about it, because I have always thought if people want me with them, they'd ask me. But I have come to realize that others like to be invited and involved, too! So, I was talking to a colleague I am pretty close to, and we decided to book a vacation to Sicily together, with ano

A bunch of outfits.

I haven't posted outfits in forever... I have been dragged down by something I had to to, and wasn't able to focus on anything else - but that's a topic for another post. So, here are my latest outfits: Shirt - Pimkie Skirt - Store in Buffalo Belt - Effetti Necklace - Steph's mom Shoes - Frau Bag - I seriously have no idea where it comes from. I wore this for my last music class - hence the long skirt. It wasn't the most comfortable of my outfits, since the skirt's waist is too large now, doesn't sit on my waist, and the skirt comes out too long. And I risked tripping on ti several times during the day... Dress - Sandro Ferrone Shoes - Gaia Necklace - Steph's mom Bag (on the chair) - Project for Upim (I have no idea why this is out of focus). This dress is really fresh and summery. The shoes are really pretty, but they have a rather high heel, and unfortunately I don't wear them that much... Shirt - Guess Skirt - Koan for Coin Shoes - Pr

Outfits - Tue and Wed

Image
I spent the weekend at the beach house, and on Mon I went to work directly from there - so no picture for Mon! Here is Tue: Dress - Motivi Shoes - Le Scarpe di Lou Bag - Nia Boutique Necklace - Steph's mom Bracelet - Steph's mom I bought this dress on 2008, still love it and still get lots of compliments for it. I have worn it with silver flat, but I think I like the pairing with purple shoes too. And this bag is really old too - circa 2002. It was quite a splurge, even on sale, but I am still using it to this day, so it was a good investiment. Wed Shirt - Zara Skirt - JCrew Shoes - BC for UO Necklace - Steph's mom Bag (on chair) - Project for Upim I had planned a totally different outfit for today, then I saw this skirt in my wardrobe. I have had it tightened (is it a word?) and shortened some weeks ago, and now it fits me much better. I bought it in the Rockfeller Center's JCrew in 2002, to wear to a meeting, and I am glad I can wear it again. I quite lik

Thoughts on music...

Image
Yesterday, the music school I go to had the end of the year show. In a nice theatre, pretty close to the St. Peter's Cathedral and Via Cola di Rienzo. I wasn't too nervous, probably also because I was starting to get sick. But of course I was a little worried I could make mistakes once on the stage. I had to play two pieces, both from South-American authors, which I really liked (that's the first requisite in choosing a piece to play: you have to love it, or you'll get sick of playing it over and over again!). I didn't invite anybody to see me. I wanted to do what everyone that plays for a living does: play in front of a public composed of complete strangers. So I went there. Started playing. I was singing the piece in my head while I was playing, and I was paying attention to the quality of my sound. And when I was done, the public starte clapping their hands. It was such a strange feeling, that complete strangers would clap their hands for the music I was

Other outfits from this week.

Image
This is what I wore from Tue to Thu, since today (Fri) I am sick again, and I wasn't able to make it to work... Tue: Shirt - Zara Arm cover - Street stand Skirt - Promod Purple necklace - Steph's mom Shoes - Le Scarpe di Lou Bag - OVS (on the chair) Since I got my new work shoes, I decided to start using all the shoes I was afraid to go to work in because they were potentially unconfortable. So, meet these purple beauties: I really like them, and I also like the fact they match my rose necklace. I kept the rest of the outfit neutral to show off the purple. Wed: Suit - Motivi Shirt - Glenfield Shoes - Vintart Necklace - Steph's mom Bag - Project for Upim This outfit looks much better without the jacket on. I think I have lost some weight since I bought it, because the jacket is really too big. The skirt is a little big, but I think it doesn't look bad. Here are the shoes: I like the little cone heel and the ruching - I think they can look really elegant.

Mon Outfit, and new shoes.

Well, today I had something else planned. But then, I though I wanted to wear one of the skirts I bought in the US and that I had tailored. Here's the result: Shirt - Guess? Jeans Arm wrap - Street stand Skirt - Banana Republic Shoes - BC via Urban Outfitters Necklace - Steph's mom Bag - Kuvé I liked the result, but I think it was a little too "office appropriate". So I wore this big necklace (one of the chains is fuschia), and the red bag. Plus, I think my tattoo makes everything slightly less office appropriate! The skirt is part of the suit I wore for my PhD defense - and this is, like, the third time I wore it since (I mean, since 2003!!!). Now, let me introduce you, my last (yesterday's) buy. Drumroll: My new work shoes! I bought them yesterday to wear around the lab. And today I discovered that they might be even reimboursed by the company. This way I can go to work with my most outrageous (ok, not quite...) heels, and change into something comfo

My work space!

Image
Sometimes ago Kelly left a lovely comment on how she liked my work space, wich is often visible in the background of my pictures. I took some shot to show it better. I like that there is a lot of yellow, which is a happy and energetic color (I like it even though I don't wear it!) and orange. Here's the left wall, with books and my guitars (you can see only one, the other ones are in the left corner). The black chair was my mom's, the bookshelf my sister's, and most of the pictures on the wall were gifts. The right wall (I should have taken a picture of the window in between...): : Still have to buy a sconce for that wall... The bookshelves (where I keep CDs) are from Ikea, as most of the rest you can see here. I fell in love with this desk as I saw it, and I like the yellow chair! Then there's the big window on the right, which goes to the balcony: The orange courtains are from Ikea, too. This is the only room where I have two windows, and I love it

An outfit -Friday

Image
...because Sat (yesterday) I was so skick that I staied in bed the whole day... An on Fri night I wore a nice dress I have never taken a pic of, but I forgot to take a picture this time too! Back to business: Shirt - Pimkie Skirt - Promod Belt - random street stand Shoes - Prendimi Necklace - Target? Handbag - Project for Upim For a change, and because the other belt I used with this skirt is black, while these sandals are brown (never together!), I used this belt, higher on my waist. I am not really used to highlight my waist like this, simply because... I don't have one! But I think the result here is not too bed. The handbag is clearly an imitation of a Hermès Kelly. Which is the handbag I'll buy to myself when I'll finally get a non-temp contract. That, or a Birkin, I still have to decide. Until a while ago, I thought I'd want it in red leather. Now I think that a beautiful brown leather would get beautiful with age. For now, I am happy with this one: it&

Outfits

Image
I have been so bad in posting lately, mostly because I haven't felt like doing anything... Anyway: here are some outfits from the last days: Shirt - Pimkie Skirt - Project for Upim Shoes - Frau Necklace - Stole it from mom I took this skirt to the tailor to have it shortened, since I thought it hit at the wrong place on my leg. She did, and gave me back the fabric she had cut. So, I wore the t-shirt and the skirt and felt like something was missing. I added the leftover fabric as a belt, and I quite liked the result! Shirt -Pimkie Skirt - Promod Belt - Promod Shoes - Gaia Necklace - Target? Yes, I went to Pimkie and bought a bunch of shirts - mainly because I needed them. The belt came with this skirt, but since the shirt is pretty long, I preferred to put it over it. Shirt - Guess? Jeans Skirt - Promod Shoes - Primadonna Necklace - Target I bough these shoes last friday. They are really comfortable to walk in, but the back band slips. I have to find a way to keep it
